Gold in cow urine !! now even research has validated it

The sacred animal cow accorded a special status in Indian tradition. Its various products including urine is being used for various purposes since time immemorial. Cow urine is recognized to contain almost all substances (elements, enzymes, hormones, etc.) which are required by a human biological system1. Therefore, regular use of cow urine maintains the balance of these elements in the human biological system and thus helps to maintain a good health & also helps to treat various disorders.

Ayurveda (Indian system of medicine) described the various uses for different products of cow. Cow urine is recognized as ‘Amrit’ & Sanjeevani and its regular use promotes positive health.

Cow urine/gomutra has been elaborately explained in Ayurveda and described in “Sushruta Samhita”,“Ashtanga Sangraha” and other Ayurvedic texts as an effective medicinal substance/secretion of animal origin with innumerable therapeutic properties2.Bhav Prakash Nighantu describes gomutra as the best of all types of animal urine (including human) and enumerates its various therapeutic uses3 .

The anti-microbial, bioavailability enhancer, free-radical scavenging property of Cow-urine is a well evidenced observation.

Traces of gold in gou mutra is now proven beyond doubt by modern resreaches. Presence of urea, creatinine, swarn kshar (aurum hydroxide), carbolic acid, phenols, calcium, and manganese has strongly explained the antimicrobial and germicidal properties of Cowurine4. Presence of amino acids and urinary peptides may enhance the bactericidal effect4 by increasing the bacterial cell surface hydrophobicity. It shows shows significant effect in wound healing activity in Wistar albino rats. Study found that cow urine heal wound faster 1% w/w nitrofurazone ointment locally5

Apart from modern reseraches vast treasures of ayurved has many references. With a perspective of ayurved, The urine of cow causes increase of Pitta Dosha, is non-unctuous, penetrating, hot in potency (Ushna Virya), pungent and salty in taste; cures wounds, oedema, enlargement of abdomen, distension, colic pain and anaemia; mitigates Kapha and Vata. It is  useful in abdominal tumours, loss of appetite, poison leucoderma, leprosy and other skin diseases including haemorrhoids. It is easily digestible, best suited for therapies like purgation, application over the skin, sudation etc. stimulates hunger, digestion, break the solidified materials in the body.

Cow urine distillate – goumutra ark is palatable, non-smelling and thus can easily be used by patients or an individual. It  is usually more effective than cow urine which was also reported by some studies. Gomutra ark would become more effective if honey is added to it. can be prescribed at a usual dose of 10-12 ml twice a day. It is mostly effective to reduce the serum cholesterol level and to reduce general body weight. It can be good prescript in various diseases of children specially cough. Regular and long term use of CUD (usually for a period of 3-4 months) provides better results especially in chronic disorders7
